cooktops vs rangetops-and which brand?

I've had a Dacor 6 burner cooktop for over 10 years and it has been wonderful We are moving and putting in a new kitchen--would love to cut costs a bit-any recommendations? Miele, Electolux, GE Monogram-DCS or any other? Need to order soon. The one I have now is almost $2700!!

Miele. Great cooktops though they don't exactly meet your request to also cut costs.

My 42" Kitchenaide 5 burner Natural Gas cooktop served me well for ~10 years and it is probably good for another 2 decades. Not sure what I would do today .... but, I would most likely opt for a more standard size and a much better hood (builder installed a sear's cheapie to save $$ and I didn't catch it on the original order sheet).

I've used the European electric smooth cooktops with satisfaction but, I don't really like the smooth "glass" cooktops. I'm in an all electric part of the country so, I'm thinking I will end up with another gas cooktop with propane gas bottles.

I'm looking forward to what other forum members have to say in this thread.
