Loved the New York version - though Conant was notably in the kitchen on my visit.

Fantastic bread service, beautiful and complex pastas, good portions for the dollar. I do not believe any of the Scarpetta restaurants have a tasting - at least they didn't when I last looked.

The SCIALATIELLI and DUCK & FOIE GRAS RAVIOLI are superb and I made the Polenta for Thanksgiving last year and it turned out great.

I went to Scarpetta in NYC two years ago...soon after it got the NYT review...the food, with the exception of the polenta with mushrooms, was unmemorable...the heralded spagetti with tomato sauce tastes like the hazan recipe (onion/butter) with a few added basil leaves. The room was fun and had a terrific NYC vibe.

However, the Montage is a morgue....this addition won't change that, IMO...also, while $25 pastas may fly in NYC, I'm not sure about LA (although Madeo seems to do well).

Scarpetta's tomato & basil pasta is all it's cracked up to be. Simple, delicious, perfectly executed. If the one out here is of the same quality as NY, it's instantly the best Italian in L.A.

Had the tomato and basil pasta today and it was one of the most delicious pastas I have ever eaten. My guest agreed. As 2ndAvenue said: "It is simple, delicious, perfectly executed."
Of note: Scarpetta is not part of Dine LA Week and they were busy; albeit, not as busy as Bouchon, across the way, which is participating in DineLA. Moreover, I loved lunch so much that I booked a reservation for tomorrow night for dinner. This restaurant is a clear winner! Can't wait to try other dishes tomorrow night.

it kills me that i can't eat his pastas.

you MUST try the polenta tomorrow, and if you're a seafood lover, i highly recommend the scallops, branzino and cod - all three are winners. buon appetito!

Thanks. Will definitely try the polenta and the seafood tomorrow. This restaurant is a treasure. I am sorry that you are unable to eat his pastas. How nice that there are other great dishes from which to choose.

that's one of the reasons i love the restaurant so much. it would be easy for them to just focus on the pasta and let everything else suffer, but they don't. the one weak area of the menu is dessert...but the flourless chocolate cake with burnt orange caramel gelato is superb.

oh, and skip the aged sirloin - we had a bad experience with it, and i read a couple of similar reports from other Hounds.

" the Montage is a morgue"
          LOL!

          "this addition won't change that"
          Absolutely correct.

The hotel may be dead, but I suspect that Scarpetta isn't looking for hotel guests to fill its tables.

We had dinner in NYC location back in Sep and can't wait to try this location. We enjoyed everything we had there from primi to dolce.

                awesome, thanks!

sadly i can't partake in any of his famous pastas or their apparently fabulous bread basket, so i'll be interested to hear how well anything else goes over ;)

Oy! The Stromboli is fantastic, and I have never had a main at the one in NY, but I'll report back either way.

yeah, it sucks...but my dining companions can eat all the glutenicious stuff, so i'll pass along the report about *everything* :)
