Olympia - lunch recommendations

We will be driving thru Olympia this week. Looking for a casual lunch spot with good homemade soups or diner foods.

  1. Sandy, the best bet for what you describe is The Iron Rabbit, in a strip mall on the west side of town. They do a nice variety of things, are quite casual, specialize in quality ingredients like organic free-range beef. http://www.ironrabbit.net/ There are also some pretty good ethnic places to eat lunch here, but I'd go for the Rabbit per your question.

2103 Harrison Ave NW Ste 1, Olympia, WA 98502

    1. Too many Iron Rabbit recommendations makes me suspicious. I've lived in this area for a long time and have never heard anything good about that place.

Anyway, what you're looking for can be found at The Martin Way Diner: homemade soups AND diner foods.

I have no connection with the Rabbit but as a customer, Shiggy. Another really nice lunch spot, relatively new, is Little Roni's Sandwich Shop, at the corner of 4th and Frederick. (They're owned by the same people as Quality Burrito) - sub-zero atmosphere - the tables and chairs are actually made of pressboard, guess that keeps the overhead costs low. The sandwiches are very delicious, ranging from vegan to slow-roasted pork. I recently really enjoyed a roasted butternut squash/havarti fresh raw spinach sandwich on delicious wheat bread there. Also - newly-discovered (to me), Ramirez/ Tortilla Factory and restaurant, a family-style restaurant and Mexican grocery with very tasty and ample portions of food (unless you are a REALLY big eater, you'll take half home).
