Where to buy alaea salt and other salts?

I'm a big specialty salt guy, and like to pick up local salts wherever I go. Just had some alaea salt and it was delicious! Would also like to get some other hawaiian salts if I can. Where is the best place to buy without getting too ripped off ...

I do have transportation, but would like to keep it waikiki (unlikely?) or Honolulu. But anywhere on the southern part of the island is fine, since I've already been around the island but will be visiting wainae and and going back to waimanolo again.

Though we normally are gifted a good sized bag from a certain restaurant, we have also bought it at Foodland at Ala Moana.

    Good luck - great stuff.

Oh how I wish I was still there! Thanks for the recs everyone. We ended up at foodland, but they were $5/lb for the same bag at Tamashiro's for the quoted $1.95 so we grabbed a bunch there. THey did have the black salt at Foodland so I grabbed some of that for a taste.

Hey, I did not promise the best price in the Islands... [Grin]

Glad that you found some sources. Since we are usually on a short string, time-wise, we often grab what we can, where we can.

OT - several holidays ago, wife got me three containers of salts (4 per each), and two pepper collections too. I use them sparingly, but enjoy each. Even bought several small salt and pepper mills, so as to not contaminate. Maybe the producers also sell small salt and pepper mills?

        Enjoy, and aloha,

Yeah I would have totally bought it if I didn't read Joebob's rec. i did grab some black lava salt there.

Thinking of throwing some things together this weekend to use the salts and then wish we were still back on the islands ..

You can get Alae/pink salt at Tamashiro's for $1.95/lb plus tax.
