Achiote paste in Durham/Chapel Hill?

Jeanne Oct 23, 2010 03:29 AM

I just received 8 packages of achiote paste from MexGrocers.com. I ordered these because I haven't had luck finding it locally. Four are going to friends - the rest are for me for some recipes I love. The cost of the paste itself was reasonable - shipping not so much. Does anyone know of a local store where I can find achiote paste?

Compare foods in durham carries the pure ground achiote, whole achiote seeds, and achiote paste.

I've seen it at Compare Foods in Durham. It's in a little yellow box that looks just like the El Yucataco brick but it says paste.

If this is mainly a cost thing, ground achiote is pretty easy to find- most Latino-oriented grocery stores have it- and you can make the paste with that and a couple of other cheap ingredients.

No - not a cost thing. I want the actual achiote paste. I've seen the ground achiote. I want to find the paste.

Have you tried Carniceria La Superior on Roxboro Rd. in Durham? Full line Latino market and Panaderia.

....or Interfoods Plaza Latina in Raleigh?
