Best Coffee
Where do we go for the best coffee in Portland? I assume there are places that roast their own beans?? Have car, will travel!! We are espresso fans, no drip or clover needed.
Thanks!!

Ended up getting to Oblique, Coava & Heart. My favorite was Heart, second was Coava, but they win out because of their showroom, absolutely gorgeous!! Also Coava has really cool ceramic to go cups for $15, and you get a $15 gc for them, great deal.
We stayed at a hotel in Gresham for our last night and I searched for a decent cup in the AM, ended up at Silk, it was okay, nothing like in the city. Then on the way home stopped at an espresso cart just off the highway, we had a good laugh, because the espresso just got worse the further from Portland we drove. I am home now and I miss it already....sigh :(

Downtown, Spella (520 SW 5th, M-F 7:30-4) is one of the best. My personal favorite is Ristretto, 2 locations on the East Side - NE 42nd & Fremont, and N. Williams a few blocks north of Fremont. Barista at 13th & Glisan in the Pearl is another good choice, as is Coffeehouse Northwest at W. Burnside & 19th.

Barista is my favorite (especially the one on NE 17th and Alberta), but neither it nor Coffeehouse Northwest roast their own beans. Sterling does roast their own in very small batches in a tiny corner next to the Trader Joes in NW, and is run by some guys from Coffeehouse Northwest. Extracto does quite a bit of roasting and has two NE locations (15th and Prescott and 30th and Killingsworth). My absolute favorite roaster right now is Coava on SE Grand and Main, which does amazing coffee in a beautiful showroom.
