Gabrielle's in Orange

I'm headed to Gabrielle's in Orange for a family event this weekend.

I looked at the menu online, and it seemed pretty standard for dreary strip-mall Connecticut Italian places. The prices surprised me = $23 for sole florentine?

Anyone been? What do you recommend? thanks.

  1. Haven't been there in years, many better choices for me, BUT they are better than average. Definitely NOT a DREARY place. Good, Freshly made food with better than average service in a nice setting. They used to have coupons and other advertising linked discounts floating around, and there menu prices may be linked to the expected coupon discounts that most patrons would use.

    1. I'm a regular there for dine-in and takeout. IMHO, worth every penny. Excellent food (great variety), always bring home a doggie-bag. Wonderful homemade bread. Favorite dish is Chicken Veluto, made with provcuitto, garlic, mushrooms in a vodka-pink sauce over linguine. Eggplant dishes are great as well. Never had a bad meal there.

      1. I used to live near there and dined there fairly frequently. Better than average food, though honestly I mostly did take-out pizza and calzones and the like with them. A little pricey but certainly well prepared food.

        1. I hope I never have to eat there again. The food seemed identical to a bunch of other strip-mall Italian places around New Haven but with a $5 surcharge. Everything was so oily! The panna cotto was a greasy mess and the veal was tough, served with a side of potatoes that had been soaked in oil. The bread was good = that was the only thing.

That's a shame to hear they went downhill. I haven't been there in a few years.
