Best seafood market west hollywood

  • 9

I just moved to West Hollywood and I'm looking for a place that sells fresh seafood. I want to buy pounds of mussels and clams at a time, whole dungeoness crab, etc. I used to go to Santa Monica Seafood when I lived in West LA, but now its too far.

Suggestions?

  1. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Unfortunately, there are no good seafood markets in West Hollywood. However, go to the "Smart Fish" stand at the Melrose Farmer's Market on Sunday's and see Jenn. She doesn't always have a lot of shellfish, but usually has oysters and sometimes clams, plus tons of other fresh fish. She may be able to get you mussels, crab, etc.

    1. How about the rather new Pavilions market? Seems they may have some good seafood to offer.

It's actually a remodel. On Santa Monica Blvd. at Robertson.

That Pavilions is HUGE and has a lot to offer, but the nearby Bristol Farms on Doheny has a much better seafood counter. Unfortunately, you'll be paying for that quality...

        3. I've always had good luck with the woman who sells fresh seafood at the Hollywood Farmers Market on Sundays. She's right in the middle, and has a great selection of very fresh seafood.

          1. The best seafood in LA when I lived there was Chalet Gourmet. Actually, it was probably one of the best seafood markets I have ever seen. They had everything from Florida shovel nose lobster, to Maine Jonah Crab, to Long Island oysters, to Dungeness crabmeat. They used to fly seafood in several times a week from Florida and Boston. Without doubt, the ONLY place I would shop for seafood. It's at 7880 Sunset.
They also used to have Petrossian caviar, Block Island swordfish, Cape Scallops, diver sea scallops (2-3 in a pound!), True American red snapper, Florida hoppers (pink shrimp), blue fin, yellow fin, albacore, yellow sole, George's Bank cod, haddock, etc... the best ever!

Sorry to tell you Chalet Gourmet is long gone, it's been a Bristol Farms Market for the last few years.

Thanks for the information. Such a shame. Bristol Farms doesn't impress me. But to be honest the hey day of specialty markets are behind us, what with all of them merging.
