Chow tips useful? Not for chicken feed, anyway.
Just out of curiosity I clicked on a "Chow Tip" video purporting to be about chicken feed.
In the video, the young lady, fashionably coiffed and wearing a nice designer scarf and makeup, told us NOT to feed table scraps to our chickens. Specifically we are not to feed left over meat scraps.
Has she ever seen a gaggle of hens chase down and gobble up a hapless mouse in the hen yard?
My bet would be no. I've seen angry hens peck a snake to death (and then eat it) too.
Does she know why they de-beak layers in commercial egghouses? That would be because if you don't, they will peck each other to death (and eat each other).
And has she any idea at all what goes into commercial chicken feed?
Let's try feathers, hair, skin, hooves, blood, and intestines. Usually labeled as "animal protein products".
Alrighty then. I guarantee, if the writers of that segment had ever set foot in a commercial chicken factory, they'd have found something more important to "tip" about than the odd bit of tablescraps.
