Any updates to this thread? Lots of places are closed for July 4 and I need to find a dinner spot. Not much is catching my eye on OpenTable so wondering if there are more options not on OT...

Try Urbanspoon in a day or two. July 3 is the farthest out they go today. Lots of good places are using them these days.

This is quite a useful thread. From what I can tell, the majority of places that take reservations but aren't on OpenTable are either places I haven't heard of, or places that I drop in at and am ususally able to get a table (Pazzia, Yank Sing, R&G).

However, I may well look up Bar Jules, Delfina, Gary Danko and Incanto. Those are all places I've heard of and have thought about going to, but have never seen on OpenTable. Now I know why.

          Coi is on OpenTable.

A lot of places take reservations only for large parties, typically 6 people or more. Should they count?

T-Rex and Fonda don't accept reservations except for parties of six or more. I think the same goes for Paisan (same owners).

I'm guessing that you mean "take on-line reservations," correct?

Delafina is another that does not go through OT, but it does not have on-line reservations either.

I don't care if they're online or not.

It just seems useful to me to have a list of popular places that one might mistakenly think aren't showing up in OpenTable search results because they're fully booked.

You can search for the name of the restaurant on Opentable. That will help you determin if they are on there and if it is booked.

I'm thinking of somebody looking for a reservation at a nice place on short notice using OpenTable to figure out what's available. In that common situation, it could be helpful to have a list of the relatively few places that aren't on OT.

What about clicking on the "Restaurants with no availability" link at the very bottom.

                          2223 restaurant.

Beretta (not reservations per se for small groups, but can call ahead to be put on waiting list)

                          Aslam's Rasoi

                          Firefly

                          Yank Sing

was pretty surpirsed to see NOPA recently make the switch to opentable

The no availability link means a couple of different things, they might be booked out or they could be having problems with their connection to opentable (i.e. their DSL is down).

Yeah, that's an odd thing about the OpenTable system architecture, if the host system they install at the restaurant is off or has no network connection, nobody can make a reservation through the Web. I guess the upside is that if the restaurant's Internet connection goes down during service, they can still access their reservations.
