How far in advance for reservations for popular restuarants?
We are in the planning stages of our annual winter visit to San Francisco. I know that many popular restaurants only open reservations 1 month in advance [i.e. Chez Panisse]. Is there any place where there might be a cumulative listing of these kinds of info?
I was looking to make a reservation at Frances, and tried to make one for January via Opentable. It came back saying "Your requested date exceeds the maximum advance reservation limit for Frances. " So I figures it might be 30 days or a month, and I play with some dates. I can get table on Dec 14, but not later in Dec.
I could keep playing around with dates to see how far out I can book, but if I have to do that with every restaurant, it will take a while.
So, is there a definitive list of this sort of thing?
{praying it doesn't rain our entire trip, again,}

other than a very few restaurant I haven't had problems getting reservations if you plan ahead of time. Most restaurants will accept reservations either one or two months in advance if you are planning that far out. Frances and The French Laundry are the two places I can think of off the top of my head that are difficult to get reservations even when planning ahead. I will disagree with tvham about the weekend reservations and opentable. I haven't had problems getting reservations on weekends via opentable.
