Lapérouse -- any recent experiences?

My husband and I would like a special restaurant to celebrate his recent promotion. I booked at Lapérouse but there is so little info here or elsewhere, and then I read multiple terrible reviews on Trip Advisor... So, I'm coming back to the opinions I trust at Chowhound to ask if anyone has eaten recently at Lapérouse? (I did see the other recent thread on groups at Lapérouse, which sounded positive.)

  1. Francois Simon reviewed it on his blog :

Seems to be an okay review, a bit expensive, but good food and a nice experience if eating in a private salon.

Thanks, I like his column in le Fig but rarely read his blog. We have reservations in the regular dining room so I think we're going to skip Lapérouse this time and try Le Dome. If/when I do try it, I'd like the private room experience, mirror scratches and all!

I think you are safer with Le Dôme. The food at Lapérouse is depressing.
If you want to try the private room experience one day, bring a sandwich ;) Or try another place with private rooms but better food, like Au Petit Riche.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions, Ptipois. When I couldn't find ANY recent (within the past year) posts on Lapérouse, I started to worry. Le Dôme was classic and delightful, loved the bouillabaisse.
