okay, I know it's early ...I need a really good pick for my daughter's Tulane graduation in May. We've been fortunate to have had the opportunity these past 3+ yrs to sample the cuisine of NOLA.. I want something really special for the last hurrah. Am considering August, Pelican Club & Galatoire's.
Some of our favorites over the past few yrs have been Dickie Brennan's steakhouse, Bacco's, GWFins, Arnauds & Commander's.
Not huge fans of Dante's K (brunch excluded), Brigtsens or Mr. B's.
We have some non-adventurous eaters in the crowd. Steaks & seafood all good. Thanks!

  1. Are you considering lunch or dinner for the special occasion and what day would it occur. I assume you prefer a place in the FQ since you mentioned August, PC and Galatoire's. Do you prefer the FQ location's or somewhere in the GD or Uptown.

If you and your friends are staying Uptown it might be best to consider a restaurant there. It's 15/20 minutes by car to the FQ from Uptown or vice versa. Where are you staying? And what location do you prefer. Thanks.

We are staying in the CBD so the FQ location would prob be our best dinner bet.

    2. For me, Galatoire's would not be considered "adventurous," but for others, it might.

Chef Besh's Restaurant August would be my first choice, but if I had never dined at Galatoire's, then it would be #1.

I've not dined at the PC, but had it on the list a few years back. All of a sudden, the locals here began posting some negative reviews, so it fell off the list. Recently, that trend has changed, and now I see a lot of positive reviews.

      Enjoy,

      Hunt

Thanks, I'll prob go with August. From what I've read, Galatoires doesnt accept res except for the upper room, which doesn't seem to be recommended. We'll try to hit that on our next trip to NOLA in March. Appreciate your help.

      2. Our family had to make the same decisions three years ago when our son graduated from Tulane. The graduation ceremony was over by early afternoon and we all went for a terrific lunch at Bayona. They have a terrific tasting menu that was alot of fun. For dinner would go to Stella. It has an elegant atmosphere and food was delicious. That was the first time we dined there and was sorry we didn't know of Stella sooner.

Congratulations on your son's graduation. We haven't tried Stella yet either, though it's been on our list. (Tough to get to every great restaurant in NOLA in 4 yrs!) The commencement ceremonies begin at 4PM, with the undergrad ceremony beginning at 5:30. Wave goodbye is at 6:30 (is it worth attending?) next door at Mardi Gras world. Unfortunately, graduation will not be held in the superdome as it is traditionally, due to construction...We'll be in the convention center. So I'm thinking dinner at 8? Thanks for your suggestions.

Pelican Club is less adventurous than August. August is very high end dining. Lots od options for Graduation. Commanders would also be good. Bayonnna, Stella, Delmonico's.

        2. Restaurant August is my favorite place to celebrate in NOLA--creative and high end food without attitude
