Nice Restaurant For Birthday Dinner

I want to surprise my husband with a nice birthday dinner in a couple weeks but we're tired of our usual "special occasion" places like Saddle Peak, Roy's, and Ruth's Chris. He loves fish and sushi and isn't a big fan of Italian. I eat shellfish but not fish. We both eat meat. We're in the North-West SFV, and the grandparents will be babysitting the kids, so would prefer not to have more than a 30 minute drive because we have to come back and pick them up. Budget wise, I'd like to keep it under $150 for food only.
How about savory in malibu? new, pretty good, and relatively close by...also nobu might be fun as he could have sushi and there are plenty of shellfish & meat options too...
I live in the NW SFV and the within 30 minute drive choices are tough as you likely know. Although these are in the same vein as the places you mentioned, we go to Flemmings in Woodland Hills and have also been going to Larsen's Grill in Simi Valley which a bit more casual and less expensive. We always have a good/special occasion time at Flemmings even if not eating steak. I suspect there are some good/nice places to try along Ventura, but someone like Carter will have more informed/current opinions on those.

My husband and I just had a lovely anniversary dinner at the Lazy Ox Canteen in Little Tokyo. Not sure how long of a drive it would be, but I highly recommend it. The ambience is romantic (albeit noisy), the food is plates to share and/or entrees, and what we had was fantastic (smoked salmon, lamb riblet, caramelized cauliflower, spaghetti squash). Interesting and fresh/seasonal-produce meat, fish and veg items. Also amazing desserts like this intense butterscotch pudding we had. http://www.lazyoxcanteen.com
