Any suggestions on where to go for an early dinner around the Center? How is Leatherby's? Looking for good food, comfortable and quiet. Thanks for any help.

Gotta throw Marche Moderne into the mix. Great French food across the street inside South Coast Plaza. Ask for a table on the patio, as the inside is very cramped. It is walkable if you only want to park once for the OCPAC, but it's a bit further than the google map makes it look.

It's not walkable for a woman in 4 inch heels!

I second Marche Moderne, it's our top choice in the area. I wouldn't call it walkable, but that's me!

I third Marche Moderne. Excellent. And I agree that Ortica is to be skipped.

I too absolutely love Marche Moderne. However, I think it is too terrific a restaurant to go to before the theater. I would go there when you will not feel constrained by time so that you can fully enjoy all that they have to offer.

Leatherby's is ok food, comfortable, and definitely quiet.

I prefer Pizzeria Ortica for the food, but it doesn't have that velvet smoking jacket feel that maybe you are going for.

Would definitely choose Leatherby's over Ortica...for food, service, and ambiance. Although food at Leatherby's is not outstanding, it is quite good, and the service and ambiance are extremely pleasant. Ask for a window table, or a comfortable booth. Oh, and it's very quiet! Remember the free corkage...a real plus. I personally do not like Ortica's pizzas because of the very wet...almost soupy crust in the center...but I've been told on this site that I don't understand true Neopolitan pizza. Nevertheless, I'd definitely pick Leatherby's.

          Another possibility is Scott's...but I prefer Leatherby's.

You hate Ortica. Thanks for the reminder.

You are quite right that I "personally" do not like Ortica's pizza. However, I completely and politely accept the opinion of others who may disagree with me, and fully acknowledge that perhaps I do not understand the nuances of Neopolitan pizza.

I've been to Leatherby's several times and going again next week. It is good, not great. Quiet for sure, even on theater nights it's pretty slow. It has 2 wonderful things going for it though (which I may have found out from a CH post awhile back), you only have to park once and can valet and no corkage fee.
They have a nice bar menu as well.

Thanks Bubbly. Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. I can valet park at Leatherby's and walk to the theater.
