Soupe de Poissons

Have a real craving for this wonderful, rich tasting soup from France, and I was wondering if it is available anywhere in NYC-- Yes, I mean the complex really fishy soup taste complete with croutons and rouille. Thanks!

Do you mean bouillabaisse? I don't know the difference between two but I heard both Payard and Balthazar serve pretty good boullabaisse.

No. Soupe de poissons is a rich broth with only emulsified solids in it. Completely different from bouillabaisse...

As it's a Provencal dish, restaurants that specialize in French cuisine from Provence should have it. Try La Mangeoire.

IC...Does it taste completely different than bouillabaisse?

      2. We just had it at the soup festival in Brooklyn on Saturday. So I don't know if it was a special or is on their menu regularly. It was served at Provence en Boite (Smith at DeGraw). Sorry for the outerborough rec but that's the only place I know.

Struck out with both of those. Le Mangeoire only makes a Bouillabaisse. And in fact they have very few dishes on their menu that would be found in Provence. Provence en Boite only makes Onion Soup and a different vegetarian soup daily.

Still looking for a Soupe de Poissons in New York!!

Did you actually speak to Provence en Boite or did you just look at their online menu? I would be very surprised to hear that they made a soup for the soup festival that they never serve at their restaurant. The whole point is to get people to come back to your restaurant.

        2. A menupages "find a food" search showed these four choices:

Thank you! Chez Jacqueline looks VERY authentic, I will have to get there soon. Merci beaucoup, small h!!

You're most welcome. I know that Le Chantilly served soup de poissons - the guy I worked for then ate it every damn day. But Le Chantilly closed in 1999, so that's not much help.

          2. I have not had soupe de poisson anywhere else besides at Lucien, so I can't tell if it's super authentic or not, but I think it's yummy. And yes it's served with croutons & rouille.

Incidentally, I had Rocco's fish soup from Fairway recently and thought that kind of tasted like a less rich, slightly watery (but with more stuff) version of soupe de poissons ... still good.
