Prime Rib Night at Brazen Head

Prompted by an advert in the SF Examiner, my wife & I went for dinner last night to the Brazen Head, a pub/restaurant in San Franisco (the place with no sign out front at the corner of Greenwich & Buchanan). Monday & Tuesday nights they offer a prime rib dinner for $20.10.

The Brazen Head is celebrating its 30th year, which makes it almost a landmark by San Fran standards. I believe it is operated by the same people who own Liverpool Lil's. The menu and the decor is a bit of a throwback.

We split a $10 spinach salad (with goat cheese, pickled onions, walnuts, etc.) and each had the prime rib. The prime rib is advertised as a 10 oz. serving and that seemed about right. It was tender and VERY tasty and was served medium rare, as we requested. It comes with a baked potato, sauteed veggies and ramekins of sour cream & horseradish.

If anyone is looking to satisfy a red meat craving, this is a spot to try.

  1. Do you recall how long this promotion will continue? It's mentioned on FB page, but doesn't state the time period.

I really could not say how long it will last, but I did not get the sense it was a short-term deal, lasting just a few weeks or a month or two. My guess is that it is a way to stimulate business on two otherwise slow nights. Prime rib is not on the regular menu the other 5 nights of the week.

When January rolls round, maybe they will raise the price to $20.11!

    2. Since there are a couple of prime rib-related threads current, I thought I would run this up the flagpole again.

We (a party of 4) all had the prime rib dinner special tonite at the Brazen Head and everyone was very pleased. It is still just $20.10 and served only on Monday and Tuesday nites. The beef is advertised as "Certified Angus."

The $6 slice of cheesecake for desert was not large, but it was very tasty.

        Two more things:

        1) The Brazen Head is cash only. No credit or debit cards.
        2) They have Bonny Doon "Le Cigare Volant" on the wine list for $36, which is a very nice value considering the wine usually retails for around $30.
