Great dinner at the Glass Onion

This will be a weak review... I apologize ahead of time. We had dinner at The Glass Onion in Falmouth a few weeks back and the details of the meal are starting to fade. However, we has such a nice time, I wanted to say something! We went on a Saturday night for a joint anniversary dinner (2 couples). Unfortunately, they do not take reservations for parties under six, but when we called ahead to see about the wait at around 7:30 pm, we were assured that no matter what time we were seated, the kitchen would be fully operational. When we arrived around 8, there was an hour wait. I have to say, I have never experienced a more pleasant wait for a table. We were handed a wine list and brought a glass of wine immediately (despite there being multiple parties waiting). They have a nice porch to wait on, in fact, I saw many people go ahead and order their bottle of wine and start the evening on the porch. We found some comfortable seats and had a nice time talking and people watching while we waited. Despite being extremely busy, they were nice enough to get my hubs a cup of coffee (Coffee O's closed at 6 on a Saturday... I know it's Fall but... 6!). A smile and a drink go A LONG way in making waiting a pleasure. Anyhow, dinner... we had a great waiter, he was wonderful about questions. We started with a complimentary amuse bouche, duck confit and caramelized sweet onion, very good. Even my mother who never eats duck agreed it was nice. The special salad that night was something with blue cheese, and it was great. I wish I could remember more details, but it was the delicious cheese that stayed with me. We also got the crab and cod cake, it was light and not too bready. I'm not a huge crab cake lover and I thought it was one of the best I've had. I had the special that night: flounder in a buttery caper sauce. It was lovely. The sauce still felt light and lemony and the fish was cooked nicely. What my companions had, I'm trying to recall. I believe there was a seafood stew, a rib-eye and maybe scallops?? I do remember that there were positive reviews all round. We had dessert waiting for us at home, but there seemed to be some nice options. I really liked the wine list too, a few good choices by the glass and lots of nice options for bottles with a good range in prices. And the atmosphere is lovely, a bright, pretty room and not too loud. Overall, this was great evening. I think Falmouth really needs a fine dining option that is not Italian. And while I would never turn down a basket of fried clams, as someone who grew up on the Cape, sometimes you want something different, this is perfect. It is the type of place where half the room was in dress clothes and the other half in jeans, everyone seemed comfortable. I wish them luck and would highly recommend the Glass Onion for a nice night out.
