Quick comfort food ideas (for grieving friend)?
I want to take a friend some food tonight (her adult-nephew lost his battle with cancer this morning). I was thinking muffins, cupcakes, etc. - something along those lines (something easy to eat and share and needs minimal refrigeration and/or storage).
She's vegetarian and will likely have a whole house-full of people dropping in and out.
I'd need to whip something up relatively quickly (think about an hour total time) after work today....
Anything come to mind? Recipes would be appreciated as well!
Oh, I'm sorry sorry to hear about your friend's nephew.
I always think people who are grieving need comfort food that is not sweets, because it's so easy to overindulge on sweets and then feel lousy later because you haven't had any "real" food. Off the top of my head how about:
- A cheese platter with some crackers and crusty bread, maybe some candied nuts.
- Mac and cheese. Can't go wrong. Bring some paper bowls and spoons, etc.
- Veg chili
Edit: how about a savory monkey bread if you've got a bundt pan? http://www.latimes.com/features/food/...
Also, don't forget to mark your dish with your name and phone underneath with masking tape. If you don't need it back, just write "No need to return" or "Recycle" or whatever because they might make themselves crazy trying to return it to you...
