New Years Eve In Philly

melgreco Oct 19, 2010 11:42 AM

I am travelling with my husband from Toronto to Philly from December 30th-January 3rd. We're going primarily to watch an eagles game but thought it would be fun to spend New Years there too. We are staying at the Hotel Palomar and will not have a car. I have NO CLUE where to look. We are in our 30's/40's and love to go out for fabulous food, primarily Italian/Mediterranean/Spanish/American. I'm looking for somewhere I can go for dinner on New Years at around 8ish and spend the entire evening there; hopefully with live music/dancing...not to be confused with a nightclub. We don't want to go anywhere we'll feel old. LOL! I love all kinds of food...my husband on the other hand is a picky Italian who thinks no one cooks better than his mama. So no Asian food and no places where the portions are ridiculously small or he'll complain all night! LOL! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Also, any suggestions for the other days and nights would be great too!!! Thanks so much!

Since no one has replied yet, I'm assuming all the other chowhounds know that it's just too darn early to start booking NYE. Once it's post-Thanksgiving, you'll start seeing the events posted. I believe the Ritz Hotel (and some other hotels) do a dinner/dance/party thing you can buy tickets for. It's probably what you're thinking of. Most restaurants have a prixe-fixe that can range from $25 per person, to a good $150 or more sometimes including alcohol. My group usually books either a BYO or small restaraunt with a prixe-fixe, though the meal doesn't always last into midnight (the last booking of the night sometimes does). You can also try the bigger restaurant groups like Starr or Garces - since they have marketing teams, etc, they will have a lot of events planned I'm sure. Lastly, there is a Philly NYE site - but they mostly post the kind of event you don't want - very clubby. Otherwise, go to Urbanspoon or Menupages and check out the different spots near your location (center city west)

Foobooz (foobooz.com) always does a nice organized list of NYE events at restaurants, too.

I've heard great things about the Spirit of Philadelphia, and it'll get you front row seats to the fireworks!

Just saw this and remembered your post. It's right near your hotel too:

Stay in your hotel! The Palomar has a great lounge/bar in the lobby. I've been there many times. Warm, inviting and adult.
