Miami - seafood with a view?

sarah2k Oct 19, 2010 11:20 AM

New Yorker here. I'm looking for a great place to go for an unconventional seafood Thanksgiving extravaganza. Doesn't have to have a view, but that would be nice. I've heard good things about Michy's (which is closed for tksgiving) and River Oyster House (which doesn't appear to have a view) - any other opinions? Thanks!!

Should check out Area 31 in the Epic Hotel downtown. It's up on the 16th (?) floor of the hotel and has an outdoor patio if the weather's good. Very strong seafood focus including a five-course sustainable seafood menu. As a hotel restaurant it'll probably be open Thanksgiving.

I like River Oyster Bar, but you're right, no view.

Agreed on Area 31, especially if seafood is your focus. Another spot to check out is Baleen on Grove Isle. It's right on the bay with a great view. The only thing is that their chef recently left and I'm not aware of a replacement (haven't really researched it either).

They did change Baleen, Its now called Gibralter. I havent been but Ive heard its good. The views cannot be beat! Joes just opened and its delicious. No views but you could go for an early drink at smith and wollenski which is right on the water with excellent views, walk through the park and go to Joes after (its very close). Not sure if Joes is open on thanksgiving though

Wow, that was dumb of me... Totally forgot about the name change. It is Gibraltar now and the former chef, Jeff O'Neill, is gone. He is at Villa by Barton G at the Versace mansion on Miami Beach.

They did indeed change and the location cannot be beat, but the menu left a lot to be desired when I went soon after it opened. Has been a while...I hope you're right.
