Hi All,

Found this recipe for Taro puffs (
http://www.mycookinghut.com/2010/10/1... ) and I wanted to make it, but I also wanted to not BBQ my own pork... anyone know of a good place where I can pick up chiar shu pork that's ready to put into dishes?

Thanks in advance!

Are you looking for DC proper or the suburbs? There are quite a few places in NoVa that have it.

Since this recipe is going to be for special occasions, I'd be fine with going into the suburbs, though the closer the better for me :)

In the Falls Church area, Marks Duck House, Miu Kee and Great Wall all have good char sui. If you're making a special trip out, I'd look before buying because it can be hit or miss, though usually more hit than miss. If it doesn't look good, move on--they're not that far apart from each other. Hopefully, other CHs will have suggestions for places closer to you. Falls Church is closest to me.

The supermarket at Eden Center has a place in front that has freshly roasted pork, ducks hangings in the window, etc. Plus Eden Center is such a great place to visit.

Cho Chu Saigon, in the interior plaza near the supermarket, also has it, and be sure to get an order of their roasted pig to snack on for your drive home.

In the District, I know that Chinatown Express sells char siu. I remember having it once and it was acceptable, if not great. Don't remember if Full Kee makes their own, but Chinatown Express definitely does.

You can also find it at Eat First in Chinatown.
