Restaurant Recommendation for a small Christening party near 16th St btwn 5th & 6th Ave (St. Francis Xavier church)?

Hi All - I am a long time Manhattan-ite and have consistently relied on this board for great food and restaurant recommendations. With that said, I am turning to you chowhounds again for a restaurant recommendation to host my newborn son's Christening party luncheon. The Christening will be in the December timeframe and we will have about 15-20 people total (including kids). We are hoping for a good Italian or American restaurant within walking distance from St. Francis Xavier church which is on W 16th btwn 6th & 7th Ave. I had a couple of places in mind, but as it turns out, they are closed for lunch. Any ideas? I am hoping to find a place with good food that won't break the bank - and ideally has some sort of private space or at least a small area which they can carve out for my party. Thanks so much!!

  1. Le Zie, on 7th Avenue and 20th Street, serves excellent, reasonably priced Italian food, is open for lunch, and has a room upstairs that easily could accommodate you.

    1. Not that it probably makes a difference - but St. Francis Xavier is on 16th between 5th and 6th (closer to 6th) Aves.

Thanks Blumie! Looked up Le Zie and it gets great reviews...Will check it out.

        Yebo - thanks for catching my type-o - I put 5th & 6th in the title, but 6th & 7th was a type-o in my post.

Any other suggestions are welcome - FYI - I called Da Andrea and they are closed for lunch - LOVE that place!

      2. Is Otto too far away? I don't know how they deal with private parties, but the food is good.

        1. Tarallucci e Vino? On 18th between Broadway & 5th? I think they have a loft....
