Baked in Red Hook

Over the past 5 years at Baked in Red Hook, there have been reliably 2-3 delicious cakes. In my past 6 visits, they have failed to have cakes, any cake, in each visit. I expressed my annoyance to management and they are aware of the situation. Apparently they are victims of their own success and are more concerned with fulfilling retail orders than the community that gave rise to their success. If they wish to be a coffee and cupcake shop, they should change their moniker.

  1. you mean wholesale orders? thats a shame, cupcakes are lame when compared to good cake.

In total agreement, NOT a cupcake fan. It tops my list of most annoying NYC food fad.

Whether the issue be wholesale orders or not, they're simply not putting enough cakes on their counter. They'll put out one cake that sells out by noon and it's incredibly annoying. At first I was told sorry, there will be cake next time. Then I was told to come earlier. I have finally learned my lesson. No trip to Baked without calling in to assess the cake situation.

Not to pile on, but.... I don't like their pre-wrapped baked goods--perhaps another sign of too much success. I bought a brownie on Saturday and it had apparently been wrapped in plastic too soon (when it was still hot), and the outer layers were all mushy and gooey (in a clearly bad way). I threw it away.
