Special restaurants open on Sunday nights
My wife and I were married on Halloween. We will be in D.C. that weekend. Looking for a restaurant to celebrate our 18th anniversary that night. Since many restaurants aren't open on Sundays, I am hoping you might have some suggestions. No parameters in terms of price or type of food. Would like some place interesting and memorable with good service.
Also, if you have suggestions for reastaurants to try on the otehr nights we are there, that would be greatly appreciated. I have gotten to a point where I prefer smaller restaurants (20 tables or less) with attentive but not officious service and unique takes on food. Small plates, tapas, salumeria are always a good idea.
For your anniversary dinner I would try Equinox or J&G Steakhouse (not your typical steakhouse...great fish dishes and the best view on the roof top bar of Washington). I also hear wonderful things about Marcel's but have personally never been.
In terms of small plates restaurants, you might want to check out Masa 14 for Asian/Latin small plates, Cork (a delightful neighborhood wine bar with small plates), and Jaleo for Spanish tapas.

Most DC restaurants are open on Sundays. I think it's mostly outside of the major cities on the coasts that you find a lot of closures on Sunday.
I went to Oyamel last weekend for the third time and it remains my favorite Andres place. The huevoes rancheros with pork belly was pretty incredible.

Some friends were celebrating at Marcel's last week. They said it was outstanding and it's open on Sunday. I like Blue Duck and 1789 also. Both are open on Sunday.

Celebrated chef Jose Andres has made a specialty of tapas restaurants. I think his best is Jaleo for Spanish tapas, but also very good is Zaytinya (though it does get noisy) for pan-Helennic tapas.
Many places downtown are kind of noisy, btw.
Againn is an Irish gastropub with tremendous attention to detail. Brasserie Beck is a true Belgian Brasserie. Siroc is intimate Italian, Two excellent places in Arlington: Lyon Hall near the Clarendon Metro is Alsatian, and Chez Manelle near the Courthouse Metro is Tunisian. Ethiopian food is excellent at Etete in DC. 2 Amys near the Washington Cathedral serves great neapolitan pizza and Italian small plates.

Thanks all. We are dining at Restaurant Nora on Friday night and Cafe Atlantico on Saturday night. We have reservations for Blue Duck Tavern on Sunday night but I am still thinking about that one. We may go to Ris for Sunday brunch.

Ris is delicious---although I personally wasn't very impressed with their brunch. I thought their lunch and dinner (meatloaf!!!) was much better.

FYI - Restaurant Nora hasn't been getting good reviews from locals in quite a while. Just don't want you to think it's the best DC has to offer...

I would mix that all up - do RIS and BDT for dinner and Cafe Atlantico's dim sum brunch.
Skip Nora (noone ever says anything good about it) and consider adding Corduroy, Central, or Birch and Barley.

I agree with reiflame...especially since you seem to like small plates. The dim sum brunch at Cafe Atlantico is delicious and a lot of fun!

Dinner at Cafe Atlantico has been seriously underwhelming, but the dim sum brunch is tasty and fun.

The regular menu at Cafe Atlantico is only ok.
Why did you choose Nora?

Near the hotel. Selected by the concierge.

Ah, I expect few on Chowhound consider that to be a satisfying method of restaurant selection.

Nora was good not great. Appetizers were amazing. Crab and avocado was "the best guacamole ever" and the steak tartar would turn any raw food vegan into a carnivore. Things dropped off precipitously at the main course. Osso bucco, tender and dry. Not sure how that works. Gnocchi was a mash, not a melange, of flavors. Service was top notch. Attentive but not overbearing. Management came by to ask how dinner was. After we talked, they comped us our wine.

Some other observations. Sat at the bar at Urbana for a couple of glasses of wine. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Jennifer is an outstanding bartendress. Very personable, knows the wine list well and made some excellens suggestions.
Breakfast at the Jockey Club is marginal and overpriced. The bar food at the Fairfax Lounge is excellent. Definitely try their french fries. Crisp, hot tasty.

Did go Zaytinya based on your comments. Enjoyed it. Lamb chops were good, not great. Tzatzikis was excellent. Did enjoy the greek and turkish wines.

Big thumbs up for the Blue Duck Tavern. Best meal and service we had all weekend. Probably the finest charcuterie and cheese plate we have ever had. Admittedly, the Foie Gras Candy Bar was a little odd. Shares teh Beef Rib and Whole Grain Mustard Spaetzel. Major Yum. I encourage anyone looking for anoutstanding fine dining experience in the D.C. area to go.
