Food Deal : LAB (on College) $30 for $60 of food/drink - Oct 18, 2010 -(expires in a year)

ylsf Oct 18, 2010 08:26 AM

There are like 19 of these daily deal sites out right now.

One website that keeps track of all of the deals (And breaks out the food deals in a different category) is www.dealradar.com

One deal that stands out today is for LAB. I had a pretty good meal there but it was pricier than a spot I would casually go to normally. The deal on Fabfind today is for $60 worth of food for $30..

The menu is completely different than when I was there. Just checked it out online (which I would assume is what they are serving in the actual restaurant) and the dish I had wasn't there. I believe it was a smoked gnocchi that I had... My friend had a vegetarian dish. It was early summer so I don't recall exactly the name of the dishes but I do recall enjoying the meal :) I might have posted in the "review" thread of this restaurant at the time, so, might want to check that for more talk of the menu/dishes at the restaurant.

Thanks for the tip! We have a reservation this Thursday, so perfect timing :)

Does anybody have any suggestions of must orders off of the current menu?

I've tried several dishes (but I'm a confirmed fan here - started the original thread!)

The spaetzle are good - great texture, and the sweetness is noticeable.
Carrot, Orange Blossom Soup: Loved the 'punch' of the ginger, very good.
Grilled Romaine: Also good - loved the egg!
Pear Risotto - pear is my favourite fruit, so I'm biassed - loved it.
Bimbimbap - good but would have prefered spicier.
        Flat Iron Steak - fantastic!
Spiced Squash - great textures, but again prefer spicier.

Movie Snacks - great fun - definitely worth a try.
Mock Apple Pie - you won't believe it's not apple.

It was actually your previous endorsement that made me really want to try the restaurant :)

Thanks for the review of the items! The pear risotto immediately caught my eye too. My sister is a vegetarian and i'm counting on her to get the risotto or bibimbap so I can taste them too haha

Any thoughts about the lamb meatballs and goat cheese gnocchi? i think i remember reading mixed reviews about their previous smoked gnocchi on the menu

Haven't tried them (yet) - but so far we've worked our way through just about every menu item (it changes seasonally) and there have only been a couple that we wouldn't order again. Strangely (?) we've been most impressed with theitems that DIDN'T jump out at us first time (maybe related to expectations).
