Early dinner in Stowe

My Wife and I will be in Stowe for a meeting on Friday night and need to eat beforehand. The meeting starts at 7pm, so probably not a huge amount of time between work\driving up there for the meal. I keep meaning to get to The Hen of the Wood, but this isn't the time for it.

I'd prefer nothing too expensive, more like casual, eclectic rather than cheapo.

Thanks!

I haven't been to Pie in the Sky in a while, but we always liked it when we were up that way.

If you're game for driving into Waterbury, I recommend Muddy Paw (sandwiches and really good burgers, decent prices, which I've reviewed several times, I eat there a lot), Ocha Thai, The Alchemist, or Stebu Sushi. All reasonably priced, decent food.

I could probably do Waterbury, we have to drive through it on the way up to Stowe. (I actually went to Ocha Thai this summer largely based on your recommendation-very good).

Oh I'm so glad. :) I wouldn't know "proper" thai food if it bit me, but I like what I get at Ocha Thai. :)

Morganna - has Stebu expanded their hours? I've never made it there because in the beginning they were only open for lunch...would love to try it.

I totally forgot about Ocha Thai!!! One of my favorites!

Finding a good middle ground for food in Stowe gets harder and harder. It's either pricey and good, or cheap and meh.

I"m a fan of Santos Cucina Latina, which has a good variety of Latin cuisine, some very 'plain' (ie, my fiancé had a skirt steak that he thought was fantastic) and some pretty inventive. You can also try Frieda's on main street, which is pretty reasonable and the food is solid. I've only eaten there once, but I have heard nothing but good things about it.

For more casual fare, we are big fans of Alchemist in Waterbury, and if you're going early (ie, 5 or around that) you can probably score a table. The beer is amazing and everything we've eaten there has been great...they use a lot of local in-season ingredients. But it gets crowded very fast, and the seating is limited. We also really like Piecasso in Stowe, the pizza is great and we've had some of their pastas, meals and they've all been good. Nothing earth shattering, but a solid meal.
