Sonoma vs Healdburg

Spending 3 nights in the area in a few weeks (coming from Mendocino). Priorities are food and wine (esp reds...pretty much all of them) Before realizing how spread out the area is, booked a hotel in Sonoma. We have reservations for friend chicken night at Ad Hoc, Girl and the Fig, and Bouchon, 2 of which I realize are nowhere near Sonoma, and the third seems to be regarded as "so-so" here. It seems now that I would be better of staying in Healdsburg due to better food and wine choices. Is this totally the consensus, or am I misreading the opinion of Sonoma? Can still cancel my original hotel reservation.

Yes, I would definitely pick Healdsburg over Sonoma, it's my favorite town in wine country and the food and wine choices are great. If you want to stick with any of your already selected choices, I'd stick with Ad Hoc for fried chicken night, but that depends on a) how late your reservations are, and b) how you feel about an hour drive in the dark after dinner. If you aren't into that, there are lots of great food choices in Healdsburg too (there's a few good recent threads about it). Sonoma is nice, and there's nothing wrong with it, but Healdsburg is very low key and relaxing, but packed to the brim with great food and wine.

Do you mean Yountville.? Healdsburg is 40 miles from Ad Hoc and Bouchon. Downtown Sonoma is about 1/2 that distance. The Girl & the Fig is in downtown Sonoma.
