Little Green Cyclo Vietnamese food truck

I've been visiting the Little Green Cyclo, a Vietnamese food truck, over the past few weeks. Very tasty food, very friendly people: I definitely recommend it if it happens to show up near you.

I've enjoyed several bánh mì ($5 each, $0.75 for extra egg): 5-spice chicken, tamarind tofu (with and without extra fried egg). The fillings are generous, but not overwhelmingly overstuffed. The baguettes are light, with a thin, lightly crisp crust I prefer. (Compared with Lee's which is too hard and thick; ouch.) Nearly twice the cost of my other favorite bánh mì shop, Huong Lan Sandwich on Tully, true, but much more conveniently located for me.

Their sweet potato fries ($2.75) are, to put it mildly, addictive. Served with mayo-based sauce, mango-mint or honey-mustard.

I liked their chrysanthemum tea, which was refreshing on a hot day. One time they served a special chè dessert (pandan coconut milk, jackfruit, palm seed, grass jelly) which was great.

Their specials, like the chè, change weekly. For example, last week they served broken rice with topping of choice (I had it with chicken), and a side of pickled dikon and carrot. Very good stuff.

had the grilled chicken banh mi(5) recently and it was forgettable, there's nothing to distinguish cyclo from all the other banh mi makers.
would try again but staying away from all their banh mi.

I wonder if the same people are preparing the food at the OTG San Mateo.

The sweet potato fries were delicous, but I ordered the banh mi special with paté and pork belly, and the homemade paté and veggies were doled out with remarkable parsimony, and there was no pork belly at all! Yes, the bread was excellent, but at over $6 for a well-nigh empty sandwich, I really felt cheated. First chance I got, I was back at Saigon Sandwich, ordering 2 far more delicious sandwiches for little more than the same price as one from Little Green Cyclo. I hope mine was an isolated incident.

I had the same unfortunate experience with this truck at an OTG near the Civic Center and I have crossed it off my list...

I love Little Green Cyclo! I think they are one of the few (if not the only one) truck, that has weekly specials. Ive tracked them down a lot of times already and they haven't disappointed me!

Also I saw in their website that they donate to charities. Awesome!

Thanks for posting. Vietnamese food seems perfectly suited for a truck.
