Where to order a killer birthday cake --- village or soho/noho location?

  • 7

Need to order a birthday cake for this Wednesday --- have gone to both Bruno on Laguardia place and to Black Hound, both are excellent, but would be happy to try somewhere else. Any ideas?

  1. I don't know how fancy you're wanting, but Amy's Bread has a yellow cake that beats just about anywhere else in the city, IMO. My second choice would be Sugar Sweet Sunshine in the LES.

I love Sugar Sweet Sunshine as well, but their cakes are quite homey looking, if that's a factor.

Amy's Bread makes a killer chocolate cake as well.

I've found the black-and-white version of their chocolate cake to be particularly good; very moist and a nice clean design as well.

      2. I like Patisserie Claude on W. 4th, but you have to call in advance to reserve one. The hazelnut is especially good.

Since Claude left (supposedly), I found everything from croissants to cakes to tarts very inconsistent. On occasions that we chanced upon Claude visiting and manning the bakery, the baked stuff have been good.

        2. Tribeca Treats has great cakes.
