Ice Maker replacement

My Scotsman "under the counter top" ice maker recently bit the dust and am looking to replace
it. I've looked at the KitchenAid which is around $1300. Anyone have any experience with this
or will anyone recommend another brand? I don't want another Scotsman, as a friend and I have
both had them go bad in less than three years. Am I being a Pollyana in thinking an appliance
that costs over a grand should last longer than three years?

We bought one of those "portable"ice makers but the ice it makes can hardly considered cubes, more like pellets and they melt realllllllly fast! Anyway, we are now looking at a replacement
for our "real" ice maker and I will appreciate your suggestions.
