Jacci's Fish & Chips in Bellingham, WA?
Just curious if Jacci's is any good or is it overrated? I can't seem to find any mention of it here on CH but I read rave reviews on other sites. I'm a hound from Calgary, AB and will be in the Bellingham area on a Friday morning to mid-afternoon in Nov. I travel to Vancouver, BC multiple times a year and will also be visiting Portland, OR later on during this trip.
I'm looking for a must-try place for either breakfast or lunch in the Bellingham area. I don't mind if it's a hole-in-the-wall kind of place or even a food truck. Jacci's caught my eye because of all the rave reviews...
Any comments or suggestions you have would be much appreciated.

PS: There is good buzz about this food truck in Ferndale. I haven't eaten there, yet, but hope to soon!

For breakfast or lunch I'd try any of these: Bagelry, Little Cheerful, Mount Bakery, The Fountain Bistro, La Fiamma (if you want pizza).

Thanks to you all for the suggestions. The food truck (Streat Food) in Ferndale really caught my eye... I had my heart set on trying it this Fri. but it looks like it's not meant to be... According to their twitter site, it looks like they are closed this week because they are still trying to sort out personal stuff from the past week (read that their house had burnt down... so sad). Guess I'll have to keep them in mind for my next trip in the area...
I didn't have my heart set on f&c... just thought the Jacci bus was sort of like a food truck/cart and would be neat to try out. I may still stop by Jacci's to have some chowder...

The clam chowder at Jacci's is excellent! Made fresh every day and they sometimes sell out. If you go, don't miss the chowder! Also, there is very (and I mean very!) limited seating inside. So you can sit in there on a rainy day. It's not a tourist trap, lots of locals eat there.
The fish/chips are good, but basically the same as you can get at most fish/chips places. They do offer halibut and maybe salmon, in addition to the usual cod fish/chips. Also a nice touch.
The best deal is fish/chips at Shrimp Shack because you can order double fish and get enough for two for something like $11. Great deal. But, they aren't anything spectacular, either.
I don't think I've had any spectacular fish/chips, yet. If it is specifically fish/chips in Bellingham that you are looking for, you can check out this previous post:
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/6019...For ice cream, that's a no-brainer. Go to Mallard.

I'm just up the road from Jacci's and my fella gets takeout there once in a while in the summer. He says "it's ok, it's just Sysco food". That sounds accurate to me.
I think Diamond Jim's isn't unique to the area. Old Town is VERY hamster-ish, as is Little Cheerful. Or The Mount Bakery. Or the Bagelry. An onion bagel with lox and cream cheese? A really, really good bagel? NOM.
I hope you enjoy our town!

re: Vetter
Thanks for confirming that Jacci's is meh. I certainly didn't come all the way to eat Sysco-like food! How is the soft serve at Jacci's? Probably no worth trying either? Some people raved about the soft server on another site.. but I tend to trust the recommendations and reviews here on CH more. Should I head to Mallard Ice Cream instead if I'm looking for a dairy treat?

re: miss.foodie
I disagree that it's meh. We eat there a few times each summer, and their goods are good. Particularly recommend their salmon fry, which is not something you see everywhere. Pretty tasty. Soft serve, I don't know much about - not my thing. But you won't be disappointed in Mallards. I do second Vetter's other suggestions - we'll have to agree to disagree on the fish bus :)

That's the place in the double decker bus? We've never actually eaten there, as we're always on our way to Flats (www.flatstapas.com), less than a block away. The fish and chips smell good, but when it's raining (as it so often is) I don't really feel like sitting outside to eat.
Besides Flats, our other B'ham go-to is La Fiamma pizza on Railroad, or Boundary Bay Brewery if we can get in.
