Messini - What am I missing?

I went to Messini today for lunch and atlhough there were elements of the gyro that were good, the overall sandwich was less than the sum of its parts. I ordered the chicken gyro. Good: the greek style pita was soft and delish. Also, the tzatziki was very good too. Bad: The meat has absolutely no seasoning whatsover. I had to hit it with the saltshaker a few times to give it any flavour at all. And, although I usually like dark meat, especially if it's well cooked with crisp, carmelized bits, I hate biting into fat and gristle. If they serve dark meat, it should be well trimmed. It wasn't.

And it's pretty much impossible to eat it as a sandwich unless you want to wear half of it. If they serve it like that, they might as well put it on a large plate and give you a fork and knife.

I generally enjoy gyros at Messini, but I think there may be a slight consistency problem. Every few visits, I find, like you, that the chicken is excessively fatty, greasy, and gristly. If you have that on your first visit, I can totally understand why you wouldn't want to try them again.

I've only been once, but I really enjoyed the chicken gyro at Folia grill, may be worth a try if you have a craving.

I second Folia for the chicken gyro.
      Bigger, better, cheaper.

If you want the chicken, Id say go for a Shawarma, but for the Gyro, you should go for the beef(or is it lamb?) anyway, thats the good stuff!

not sure if a Chicken Gyro is authentic...

I love the lamb gyro. The waitress always asks us if we've had the lamb there before - I guess some people say it's too fatty, but it's one of my favourite guilty pleasures.

I found the lamb a bit fatty but loved the pork.

Pork and chicken are the "Authentic" flavours.
