Two foodies need some advice.
My girlfriend and I are heading to New Orleans next week. While I have been it has been years and the last time was for Mardi Gras, and my focus was not so much on the food.
This trip we are looking to enjoy the city, the cuisine, and the culture. We love great food and wine and with both being in the F&B industry we are looking for the real gems, not the tourist destinations.
Any advice from locals, or from frequent visitors would be greatly appreciated!
Will you have a car Chucktown. Where are you staying. Are you interested in places like Coquette, Commander's, Patois, Brigtsen's and others located in the GD and Uptown or do you want to stay arount the FQ and CBD. Are you interested on a budget or do you want to splurge on Galatoire's, Emeril's and others ner by. Thanks.
I will have a car, we are staying just off FQ into the business district, and we aren't on a budget but don't want to over spend for places that aren't worth it. We are from Charleston and know and love the high-end establishments, but know that you can get bang for your buck with top notch places at a fraction of the price. Those are the places I would love to find. Thanks.
Do you like Charleston Grill, Peninsula Grill, McCrady's, Magnolia's Chucktown. I like to know what a poster prefers. My favorites near the FQ are Emeril's, Galatoire's, Antoine's, Mr. B's, Bayona, NOLA, Stella, Irene's and August. I'm sure I left one or two out.
Emeril's @ 800 Tchoupitoulas St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 528 - 9393.
Galatoire's @ 209 Bourbon St., New Orleans, LA 504 - 525 - 2021.
Antoine's @ 713 Saint Louis St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 581 - 4422.
Mr. B's Bistro @ 201 Royal St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 523 - 2078.
Bayona @ 430 Dauphine St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 525 - 4455.
Nola Restaurant @ 534 Saint Louis St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 522 - 6652.
Stella Restaurant @ 1032 Chartres St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 587 - 0091.
Irene's Cuisine @ 539 St. Phillip St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 529 - 8811.
Restaurant August @ 301 Tchoupitoulas St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 299 - 9777.
There are some great lunch special's at the best restaurants that you should take advantage of. Luke, Domenica, Antoine's, August and Emeril's have lunch specials, half price drinks between 3 and 6 and those kind of deals.
If you are interested in a 15/20 minute drive Uptown you should consider lunch at Commander's Palace, Coquette, Lilette, Patois, Clancy's, Brigtsen's, Dick and Jenny's and other restaurants in that area. Be sure to have lunch at Commander's and not dinner. It's a better deal. You could have lunch on Saturday at Commander's and then walk or stroll Magazine between the 3,000 and 5,000 blocks to shop and enjoy the bars and restaurants. Go to Column's Hotel for drinks on their porch and watch the traffic on St. Charles.
Have dinner at Patois, Clancy's, D&J's, Brigtsen's or Coquette. Take the St. Charles streetcar to that area and get off but take a cab back at night.
Commander's Palace @ 1403 Washington Ave., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 899 - 8221.
Coquette @ 2800 Magazine St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 265 - 0421.
Lilette @ 3637 Magazine St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 895 - 1636.
Patois @ 6078 Laurel St., New Orleans, LA 504 - 895 - 9441.
Brigtsen's Restaurant @ 723 Dante St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 861 - 7610.
Clancy's Restaurant @ 6100 Annunciation St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 895 - 1111.
Dick & Jenny's @ 4501 Tchoupitoulas St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 894 - 9880.
The Columns Hotel @ 3811 Saint Charles Ave., New Orleans, LA 504 - 899 - 9308.
You should tour the WWII DDay Museum in CBD and have lunch at American Sector owned by John Besh for good comfort food. You can walk there from your hotel.
American Sector @ 945 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 504 - 528 - 1940.
You should try some NOLA po boys. Parkway Tavern, Mahoney's, Johnny's, Tracey's and Crabby Jack's are a few of the best. Get a po boy at Johnny's and have lunch on a bench in Jackson Square.
If you are interested in more reasonable inexpensive joints let us know. Thanks.
OK Chucktown, just a few to throw out among the countless choices: Herbsaint and Dante's Kitchen for dinner, Mandina's or Bozo's for neighborhood lunches, Parkway Bakery and Mahony's for po-boys, and Cure for cocktails. You'd be eating well with these!
