Carmel Reservation Remorse/Must Dine Alternative (If Needed)
Wife and I are traveling to Monterey/Carmel in the next few weeks for an extended weekend.
We have made reservations for Pacific's Edge for Saturday evening. We will be doing the whole cocktails, appetizers and listening to bag pipers at the Inn at Spanish Bay at Sunset, so we wouldn't be arriving until after dark.
From a couple posts on the board and some feedback I have received, the food at Pacific's Edge is good but not great and that the real experience is the view.
I am having a little bit of reservation remorse; is there a better choice or should we stick with our plans?
Dinner in San Fran Thursday evening and Passionfish in Pacific Grove on Friday evening, so we are looking for a local Cali-style one of kind meal/experience with great service. Distance won't be an issue as we will have a driver that evening.

If you do keep your res at Pacific's Edge, plan on being there for sunset. Missing the view would be a shame. Why not do Spanish Inn and then on to Passionfish. Passionfish doesn't have a view.
Rev Andy's suggestion of Aubergine might work for you too should you decide against PE. It is located in downtown Carmel.

re: PolarBear
We opted not to go to Roy’s as we have been to another one of his locations and not Aubergine or Marinus because we wanted something a little less formal.
We ended up doing the Inn at Spanish Bay for drinks and Passionfish for dinner on Friday evening and Pacific’s Edge for drinks and Casanova for dinner in Carmel on Saturday evening. We got two views/sunsets as Gail recommended, although Saturday was rainy and cloudy.
I now know why Passionfish has such a fierce following: food, service and affordable wine list were excellent. The restaurant warrants repeat visits and all the praise it has received. Only misfire was my fault as I ordered the Spotted Prawns [never had them before] for my entree. They were good not great and more of a hassle.
Casanova has to be the most quaint, romantic restaurant in the city. Food was very thoughtful and rustic and perfect for a cool rainy evening. My wife couldn't stop talking about the Spinach Gnocchi and my Pork Jowls were greatness. The service was a little spotty and you could sense our waitress was "in the weeds".
Thanks for all the recommendations, it really helped us out.

I'm glad you enjoyed Casanova, it's one of our favorite spots for lunch when in Carmel. We have had several wonderful meals at Pacific's Edge and have never been disappointed with the food quality or service. :)

I had heard the same things about Pacific Edge, so on our trip there last year we stopped for a cocktail to enjoy the view before dinner. We ate at Marinus and the meal was fantastic. We are headed to Carmel today for a long weekend and our blowout dinner is at Aubergine, which gets raves. If you haven't been to Passion Fish, you are in for a treat. Great food and a wonderfully priced wine list.
