Special Anniversary Dinner - Greenville, NC or closeby
My sister and brother in law just moved to Greenville and their ten year anniversary is at the end of the month. I wanted to send them a gift card for a really nice dinner, but do not know anything about Greenville other than the university, chain stores and chain restaurants. Would love some recommendations for a special occasion place. Thanks for your help!
I'd also throw in a recommendation for Chef and the Farmer in Kinston, NC (a sylvan 30-mile drive south of Greenville). It's a farm-to-table restaurant with a sophisticated atmosphere that could compete with the best restaurants in the state.
Chef & The Farmer @ 120 West Gordon Street, Kinston, NC 252-208-2433
If you want it to be SPECIAL Starlight Cafe is the place!
You may call them to order a gift card & make a reservation. When making the reservation I suggest you ask for the "Starlight" table for two which is right in the window under the Starlight Cafe neon sign looking out at the sidewalk. Plus it is more secluded than the other tables in the restaurant.
To organize this you may want to call around 5pm and ask to speak to Susan Boutilier who is the owner and she can handle any extras you want such as roses on the table when your sister & brother in law arrive. I have done this several times for Valentines Day.
CPW's or Starlight Grill. Finelli's is Italian and a great place also. Happy anniversary to your sister.
CPW's Fine Food and Spirit's @ 2422 Stantonsburg Road, Greenville, NC 252 - 757 - 7756.
Starlight Cafe @ 104 W 5th Street, Greenville, NC 252 - 707 - 9033.
Finelli's Cafe @ 511 Red Banks Road, Greenville, NC 252 - 695 - 0020.
I wouldn't recommend CPW's for this type of dinner- just not the right atmosphere. Half the space is the bar, which can be pretty loud and boisterous. The food is very hit or miss, also. If they are having a good monthly specials menu, you can get some good stuff, but if not, it really suffers. The regular menu is pretty boring. Service is typical Greenville- a lot of whut with a side order of duuh.
Finelli's is the only game in town if you want Italian, otherwise pretty meh.
I haven't worked up the desire to go to Starlight, but people I trust give it mixed reviews. In the general area, Kinston's Chef and the Farmer is great, and people I trust all speak very highly of On the Square in Tarboro.
The Triangle is an option, too. You can get to Raleigh in a little over an hour now that they've bypassed Knightdale.
