Homemade Ice Cream Mishap - Sugar in Egg Yolk Absolutely Necessary?

I'm making homemade ice cream and accidentally added the full amount of sugar that the recipe calls for to the milk and cream mixture. Some was meant for beating the egg yolks with. Can I beat the egg yolks without sugar and then incorporate? Any other solutions?

  1. You can absolutely proceed ahead. Just temper in your yolks without the sugar.
    I was taught to make ice cream with the "beat the sugar with the yolks" method, but over the years I've learned it is not necessary and you will still get delicious results.
