New to the North Slope

Hi All,

we are moving to Union street near 8th ave from DUMBO, and are looking forward to actually having more than 1 or 2 restaurants to visit and order from. I know there are countless posts on park slope, but I am looking specifically for information on places that deliver to our area. Are there any rec's for good Indian, Thai, and Chinese for delivery to Union st? Also, if there are any good diners that deliver, please let me know. We are looking forward to exploring the new neighborhood!

  1. I was waiting for some positive replies to show up because I didn't want to be overly negative. Since that didn't seem to happen I'll chime in with the bad news.

The Indian food in Park Slope is pretty bad. So is the Chinese. Some people like Song for Thai food but it's far from a consensus choice.

    I can't help you with diners - I don't eat in them.

7th avenue isn't noted for high cuisine. that said: avoid mr. wonton at all costs. was awful and has actually gone downhill. try the chinese on 6th avenue and union for basic 'i need chinese food delivered'. union and 4th avenue is (maybe one block over on 4th) is oxaca tacoria and they deliver. their pork tacos are wonderful. there's lots of 5th avenue eateries that deliver and you'll eat decently. i don't know any good indian in brooklyn, frankly. there's good - even great japanese around but my favorite - geido on flatbush at 7th - doesn't deliver.

The one time we ate from Song it was beyond horrible.

don't underestimate the Geido on Flatbush and 7th. The avocado dumplings are weird and good

The positive posts about Song spooked me so much that I've avoided it.

Go with your gut, don't go there. Worse than Lemongrass. Sweeeeeeeeet.

I ate at song once, because someone i was with wanted to try it. I wouldn't say it was beyond horrible, but it was definitely very americanized with regard to spicing/sweetness, and i didnt care for the clubby vibe (there was an actual dj spinning in the dining room - they do have a pretty nice outdoor patio, though some of the seating is more appropriate for a beach day than dinner).

that said, it is really fairly priced, so at least they dont compound the injustice of mediocrity with highway robbery style pricing, like, for example, any of the banh mi places to be found in the slope.

we get delivery from El Pollo on 5th avenue (and we live in the opposite direction, but easily as far as union) we stick to the roasted chicken, rice, and beans but its a good quick and affordable option when cooking isn't an option.

I agree with the other posters that there is no great Indian food in Park Slope. However, having said that, I've had some decent food at Joy Indian restaurant on Flatbush Avenue, especially the dumpakht. It MIGHT be worth a try for delivery.

Also, you are pretty close to Chiles & Chocolate on 7th Ave.

thanks, all! we actually ended up getting delivery from Mr. Wonton the day we moved, before I had read this thread. It actually wasn't awful, tasted like what i'd expect from a mediocre take out place. but we were exausted, so it worked just fine. once we settle in more, hopefully we will find some descent options for take out and also dine-in.
