How long will homemade ranch dressing last?

arielleeve Oct 13, 2010 07:45 AM

I made a homemade ranch with sour cream, mayo, buttermilk, garlic, and fresh herbs last night. How long will this last in my fridge? I tend to be slightly more liberal in terms of keeping things that others might have already tossed, but I'm not sure what would be the situation for this since mayo and buttermilk keep for a long time but sour cream does not. Thoughts?

I believe from a few days to a week.

Keep it in a good container, and there's no reason why it shouldn't give you a solid week. The vinegar in the mayo retards spoilage, and sour cream and buttermilk take forever to get "bad" as opposed to just soured. If you use powdered spice it'll be even safer, no fresh chives or anything.

Hmm.. the herbs were fresh. But there was also vinegar in the dressing that should help. Thanks!

I'd be more concerned about the fresh garlic than anything else, but in any event I'd say at least a week.

Yup, a week should be the extent of it. The flavor will improve after a day or so. btw.
