where to buy apple cider?

how come none of the grocery stores carry real apple cider? I've seen it at the farmers market, but I need some tonight for a butternut squash soup-any idea of where to check?

Too late for October 12th, but I saw apple cider at Windmill Farms at 6386 Del Cerro Blvd. I'm going to go back and buy some for some pork brine and sauce dish I plan to make this weekend. Interesting, how are you using it in your soup recipe?

I used to buy unfiltered apple juice and cider at Henry's and it was fantastic. I haven't looked for it recently so I don't know if they still carry it, but it's worth a try.

By real apple cider, I presume you mean unpasteurized cider. You can't find it in major markets due to FDA regulations that require pasteurization or other proven approaches be used to significantly reduce the risk from e. coli. Sales from producers directly to consumers (e.g. farmstands, juice bars) are exempted.

Most of the apples in Julian are shipped in, not grown there.

Actually, I think smile81 is referring to the stuff you can buy virtually anywhere on the East Coast this time of year.

Trader Joe's carries a cider this time of year. I saw it mentioned in the Fearless Flyer online today.

Last year I saw some Martinelli's cider (and regular) on sale at Bristol Farms, Henry's and Whole Foods. Should be coming in any day now.

Areas that have apple orchards have local cider in the local grocery stores. That isn't San Diego County.
