Gelonch ***** Review- Wonderful Dinner

Usually when you go back to a restaurant with high expectations, that restaurant usually doesn't live up to those expectations and you leave disappointed. So we went to our last trip to Barcelona's favorite new restaurant Gelonch with high hopes, high expectations, and hoping there was no let down as it was our first night in Barcelona.

We were promptly seated and warmly welcomed...as were everyone else that walked in to the restaurant after us. The incredible waiter/sommiier Eloi remember us from our last visit and recommended the tasting menu again, saying that chef was doing his 2010 "greatest dishes" menu that week. Taking his advice, that's what we ordered.

Of the nine or ten courses that followed, one was more brilliant than the next. As is tasting menu's vary every night, I don't need to detail the courses here, but will mention that his smoked vegtable soup was one of the most creative and delicous dishes of all time!!

Everything about this restaurant is wonderful. You get a very hearty meal at a very reasonable price. My wife has some allergies which chef made accomodations for and gave her alternate dishes. All you have to do is give them advance notice.

Another table didn't have the tasting menu and the dishes were not only beautifully plated, but had ample portions as well.

To sum up, Gelonch blew us away.....again. In the tiny confines of his kitchen, Chef Gelonch and his team have to be cooking some of the best food in Barcelona today...maybe even in the country. If you haven't yet been, get here. If you have, come back for another fantastic meal. FIVE STARS (out of five)!!!
