I have heard mixed things about this place and I was wondering if any CHders have been and would care to share their experiences?

  1. Assaggini Di Roma was my go to restaurant when I lived in the Ironbound (6 years ago) both for eat in and delivery). I have never had a bad meal there. I have had several parties there and everone has raved over the food. The service has always been attentive without being intrusive.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I haven't been there recently. Based on past performance, they have the best Italian food I have every had.

I think you should give it a try and let us Chowhounders know what you think.

    1. Haven't been in at least 5 years, but friends I worked with in Newark LOVED this place; I'm remembering house-made sausages AND wine...also, a very lounge-ish singer, but I also recall that we had a great meal. Give it a go!

      1. I forgot to mention the wine. It is homemade and the best Italian red I have ever tasted.

The pasta dishes are wonderful. Not the bitter red sauce you get at most places. Fish and seafood are superb.

        1. I had a great veal chop and some good homemade vino there when I finally found the place...it's not exceptional but carries the thrill of seeming like a "find" in the middle of the Ironbound, at least for suburban adventurers like me. The lighting isn't particularly flattering, seems like it was last renovated in 1982, but that's probably not why you're there.

Oh, yeah--this is definitely OLD school and OLD decor! :-)

          2. Thanks. As always I know I can count on fellow chowhounds.

            1. Anyone tried the one in Hazlet yet?

ate at Assaggini d roma in Hazlet last nite. The owner herself, took our orders-very gracious lady.I had their Tilapia special-succulent pieces of fish in a tomato based sauce-the spinach which came with the dish was good too. i had a side of grilled hot peppers-with a few pieces of garlic=Yum.My husband had the steak-he said it was alright..
                oh,the dessert-homemade tiramisu-was delightful.
                will go back.

Are these places owned by the same people?

                  1. re: Curlz

i think it is the same owner,as the lady at Hazlet mentioned that they had a restaurant at newark too.
