  1. DJ's Market usually has them.

    1. I bought some last week at Lina's Italian Market on Centre St. at 22 Ave N., I've also found them at DJ's as well in September.

      1. I bought some at Mercato in Mission (4th st SW)
I was behind a woman who was buying them at Community Natural Foods on 10th Ave SW. She was Polish and said that chanterelles were the most abundant mushroom in Poland... so she was amazed that she was being charged $20 for a small bag of them.

It was like $4 for a small basket of them in Finland and that's considered expensive as it was in a supermarket. They are dirt cheap at the farmer markets there.

I find DJ's reasonably priced for the wild mushrooms.

I would never buy anything form DJ Market. Went there a few times and EVERYTHING was rotten. for real.

While I would agree that you have to watch what you buy at Dj's, because they have a lot of non-local produce there, they do have some great produce, and at great prices. Buyer beware...I think they are a nice family trying to make a living. Check where it came from, if that is important to you (it is to me) but also check carefully if it is fresh. I don't think they are trying to rip people off; they are just selling a wide variety and I always go around the store and give things a hard look before I choose.

          2. You can get a large box of chantrelles - I think it's a couple of pounds for $10.00 at Costco. They usually bring them in during the fall-winter.

            1. FYI: Wild Chantrelles at Amaranth; 1/2 a lb for $7.99. Costco has farmed Chantrelles (Beacon Hill Location) 1 lb for around 8 bucks.

Not as intense in flavor, but for me the Costco variety is good enough. Perfect for Risotto.
