Breakfast between Desert Palm and Joshua Tree (the park, not the town)

II'm going to be at a conference in Desert Palm. A friend is driving out from LA, meeting me at the hotel about 8 am and then we're heading for a day of hiking in Joshua Tree. Any good breakfast spots on the way, or should we just eat at the hotel (JW Marriott)?
