Arrows? Is it worth it?

Our 10 year wedding anniversary. With 2 young kids we don't get out much and we are going to Maine for the weekend. Thoughts? Suggestions for other places welcome

  1. No. Would go to Mark and Clark's other venue- MC Perkins Cove. Much better food, a better waitstaff, at about a half the price. Arrows is a restaurant whose time has passed.

    1. Where in Maine exactly will you be traveling? I ask because, if Ogunquit is not a definitive location for the anniversary, surely there are better options in the state than Arrows.

        NO NO NO
overated, overpriced, attitudes, but give it a try, you might like to pay for butter.....

      2. No, and I would not go to MC Perkins Cove either, as I do not think it is anniversary worthy. There are much better choices in Portland.

        1. Agree it's extremely overpriced, BUT it is well worth it if you go on a Friday nite and get the $39.95 bistro special - 3 course dinner. You can find the menu for the upcoming Friday online on their website. The Friday we went they had exactly the items we would have ordered - can't remember appetizer, but entree was roasted salmon and dessert was a luscious fig bread pudding served warm with a carafe of warm, dark chocolate to drizzle. The meal was delicious, and very reasonable for quality of food. You need to ck their menu tho, since you do not get any choice . Just checked website and this Fri is grilled flank steak for entree, apple crisp for dessert -- glad we went when we did!

$40 for flank steak and a friggin apple crisp?........I

realize they can chef it up pretty good there, but at the end of the day, you just paid $40 for flank steak and apple crisp...........my vote is to pass

Bistro menu is listed on website for upcoming Fri. You can just wait until menu appeals to you. I wouldn't go for flank steak and apple crisp either, but our selection of roasted salmon and fig bread pudding was well worth it! If I ever see that fig bread pudding on menu again, I'll go no matter what the entree and appetizer is - served warm, with carafe of warm dark chocolate -- one of the best dessert ever - the ultimate comfort food.

          2. No, I don't think so. My favorite restaurant in Maine is Primo in Rockland. It is not super fancy but everything there tastes SO GOOD. Thing is it's about two hours north of Ogunquit. There are plenty of nice things to do around Rockland /Camden though. Farnsworth museum, Camden Hills State Park are a couple.

MC's is a NICE place ........ but not an "anniversary special" type of place. The food is good, but it's more like a "fancy bar" type place. Haven't been to Arrows yet (have been to the White Barn Inn, & it was OK) so I have no idea how Arrows is. The place we go for our "special" dinners when in the Ogunquit is On the Marsh in Kennebunk - it's formal without being too stuffy, & the food is great. We have celebrated 3 out of our 5 anniversaries there - that's just how much we like it. If you like mussels, they have a GREAT mussel app with a pan roasted tomato broth that is AWESOME! I had the tenderloin & you could have cut it with a spoon it was so tender (AND tasty!). Hubby had a veal special I believe, & the Apple Bolyn is what we always get to split for desert.

FYI, when you click on menu, for some reason it pops up the Thanksgiving menu - you need to click on the menu listings on the left when that menu pops up.

I second On the Marsh. My wife and I celebrated there recently. It was outstanding. Notice the glass oil lanterns they have on the tables. We bought a few for our home. Great place with good food and fine service.

Agree with On the Marsh. Beautiful setting and atmosphere, good food, and friendly, competent service. Perfect place for anniv dinner.

Actually, that's the only bad thing about On The Marsh - you can buy pretty much anything there, & my hubby wanted one on the paintings he fell in love with in the dining room (the painting with the white bird - maybe a heron?)! Now THAT would have been an expensive dinner! ; )
