what's the BEST THAI in san francisco

What's the best Thai in SF - most authentic?

I've tried Siam Lotus on Haight and all the Osha Thai's. Looking for something as authentic as Chang Mai, Thailand!

Thanks everyone!

Actually, Basil Canteen on Folsom (not the original Basil) has some more "authentic" (whatever that word means anymore) thai ingredients.

Whole lychees as part of a stir fry, whole peppercorns still on the branch, and some great noodle dishes that I haven't seen elsewhere.

That is a great tip, Dana B. I just discovered that a place in Vancouver does a noodle dish, pad kee mao, with fresh green peppercorns and I am in heaven. Basil Canteen is back on the radar (it was previously for a duck curry that we never made it in to try when visiting SF -- it is also in an architecturally interesting building I understand, if that floats your boat).

Baan Thai House & Wine Bar at 7th and Irving. An excellent newcomer.

Lers Ros for Northern Thai/the esoteric

Thai House Express on Larkin for more street-food type and Issan

Do you have any favorite or specific dishes you're looking for?

Like everyone else, I love Lers Ros, though i think they have good venison dishes - if i remember right...

I would also agree that Lers Ros and Thai House Express are the best in SF. That sliced pork shoulder (#9 on the menu, as recommended by ankimo) is quite delicious I must say.

For Chiang Mai style food, check out the "secret menu" at Chabaa in the Sunset.

so far, i've been most impressed with lers ros. too bad they don't have more LA thai town places up here.
if you're not convinced about lers ros, try the #9, #62, #69, #114
chabaa secret menu at sunset location is good and unique

Lers Ros is in a class by itself.

Lers Ros is a favorite on this board. I'm also curious about Chabaa in the Sunset.
