cheap vegetarian (which is not Asian)

I saw this topic posted about five years back so I am hoping that half a decade is enough time to produce some additions to that rather meager list. I am going out to dinner with a visiting friend who is a vegetarian and I not being a vegetarian do no know much about finding places like this and so far my search has been rather fruitless (no pun intended). Our main restriction is that she is not a fan of Asian food in general and also that we are impoverished college students, so while I would give an arm and a leg to get the vegetarian tasting menu at Orleana, they only accept money-- something I do not have much of.

Bottom line, what is a cheap place to get some good non-Asian vegetarian fare?

        Helmand
        Baraka Cafe
        Grendels Den
        Otherside Cafe
        Bukowski Tavern

The above all have multiple vegetaran choices and aren't expensive. The vegetarian special at Helmand is one of the best dishes in town, veggie or not, and at $15 is a great deal.

You can do well as a vegetarian at many Middle Eastern / eastern Mediterranean places: I've enjoyed Cafe Barada (Lebanese, North Cambridge), Greek Corner (Greek, North Cambridge), Falafel Corner (pan-Middle Eastern, but I think the owners are Egyptian; the foul medammas is quite good and probably a better vegetarian option than the falafel, Harvard Square), and Istanbul'lu (Turkish, Teele Square). Fordee's in Watertown is generally regarded as having the best falafel, although I have sadly not made it there yet.

Miracle of Science does a nice veggie burger, and Christopher's does a decent one. Many people rave about the veggie burger at the Druid, but again I have sadly not been yet so can't comment from personal experience.

Many pizza places are of course good options for vegetarians as well. Some of my favorites include: Posto in Davis Square (a little pricier, but you can eat for under $20 pp if you share an appetizer or two and split a pizza), Cambridge 1 in Harvard Square, and Zing in Porter Square.

I'd also second Red Lentil and Helmand (which is a bit pricier) as good options.

Flatbread in Davis Square is another vegetarian friendly pizza place. In addition to the on-menu items, they have at least 1 veggie special each night. It's definitely our go-to pizza place now. Great drink selections as well, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Our bill is typically a little over $20 when I get a beer.

Keep in mind, Will, that the veggie tasting menu at Oleana is 5 meze + dessert for $40. It's a lot of food which you can split, so only $20/pp. You can also order a few meze with drinks at the bar, etc.

The Clover food truck is the best and most affordable vegetarian option around the city. You can't go wrong for $5 a sandwich! You can find a truck at 20 Carleton Street in Cambridge and at the corner of Summer Street and Atlantic Ave in Boston. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, Yum!

Garlic & Lemons in Allston has amazing veggie Lebanese options, and for you the chicken schwarma is delicious. Plus, it's a fun few blocks to walk around and check out stores and bars and dessert options at night.
