Wok Cafe - 1845 Rue Sainte-Catherine W Montreal, QC

I don't know if I ever made a review on this joint but it has been there for a while. I haven't been there in at least 5-6 years. Since I was in the area yesterday I stopped for lunch.

I always eat the same stuff there. Dim Sum and pad thai plate then I ask for my doggy bag because the pad thai plate is a big one.

The chicken shrimp pad thai wasn't as good as the last time I had it (5-6 years). It was a bit to wet but the taste was good. Defnetly wasn'T the same chef.

The dim sum I took was akoa ? or hakoa? anyway it's with shrimps and it was really excellent.

I am no expert in dim sum but those 4 peaces where like candy in my mouth.

I order from wok cafe sometimes I like their chiuchow dimsum and chinese broccoli and beef (but aways order it extra spicy)

I've never understood the Wok Cafe thing ... some of my friends love it, but I think it has more to do with the low prices and large quantities. I've never found the quality of the food to be anything other than merely edible. It strikes me as the perfect university student bargain place, but not really a foodie place.

Over the years I only tried Dim Sum and the pad thai at this place so I can't comment on overall quality. But I would put my hand in fire to say that their Dim Sum are Top Notch. Freshly steamed on demand.

As for the area I had no so great experiences in the past at the 2 chinese asian restaurants across from eachother at the corner of St-Catherines and St-Marc. The one on the south west corner was Ughhhh.

Agree, U&Me was gross, extremely poor meat.ingredient quality - good thing they closed their doors before anyone died...

u&me had the best soup with chicken and noodles. the chicken was sketchy indeed but their broth was piping hot with the correct level of saltiness and they gave a mountain of vegetables. i always had to sit for a few moments and marvel at how beautiful the soup looked and always felt sad once i got to the mid-way mark. It was also $6.75 and left me full for the rest of the day. Wok cafe is overrated. I've heard people rave about it - their cantonese chowmein suxxxxxxxx and so do their big soups. My favorite cantonese chowmein is the green sign place beside cafe depot across from the hall building (i just had it 10min ago). With this chowmein you get the full on wok hai effect, thick chunks of bbq pork, shrimps and chicken. The sauce is thick and creamy. This dish is nothing short of comfort food - a real winner in my opinion (make sure to eat it right out of the wok)

a bit off topic - is there anything else you would recommend from the green sign place celfie?

no, i don't really know too many people that like it - they are usually skeptical of the noodle dish, but man it's good.
