Pubs North of Boston

Any recommendations for Pubs anywhere from just North of Boston to the North Shore?

We have enjoyed Three Cod Tavern in Marblehead. Good crab cakes (my partner was born in MD, so I speak with a smidge of semi-authority).

The Ale House in Amesbury has an awesome beer selection. The Choate Bridge Pub in Ipswich is straightforward pub food, but always done well. Nothing fancy, just honest food.

I would second Choate Bridge Pub and we also like the Lazy Dog in Wyoma Square in Lynn once in a while.

I second both recommendations, for different reasons. Ale House has a phenomenal beer selection and really educated servers. The food is meh. Patty melt pretty good.

Choate has good burgers, great onion rings, cheap drinks and friendly waitstaff - cash only though.

Is the Old Spot good again? It seems like every 6 months it swings between good and mediocre.

I had an ok meal at The Old Spot a couple of weeks ago. Nothing memorable, but not too bad.

Highland Cafe is just north of Boston, and one of my favorite spots for food these days.

Other chow worthy pubs in Somerville, gateway to the North Shore, are Olde Magouns and Tavern at the End of the World.

I am not sure I would call the following two places pubs...dives maybe, but they have good food. Brodies on Main Street in Peabody and Champions on Foster Street in Peabody. Both very close to each other so if one is too crowded you can go to the other one.

We tried District 7 a new pub on Pleasant St. in Malden last night and had a really good meal. The atmosphere was intimate and comfortable (dark red walls, pictures of Malden firefighters and fire trucks line the walls). They have a pretty decent selection of microbrews and their Guinness tap looks like a fire hydrant. We started with the buffalo chicken dip which was creamy, spicy, and had a lot of chicken. I had the meat loaf (Monday night special) and it was a generous and tasty portion - three slices of meat loaf with brown gravy - one of the best I've had in a while and the mashed potatoes were buttery and creamy. My husband had the short ribs which I was cautioning him against but they were actually perfectly cooked and the sauce on them was completely addicting. We were very pleasantly surprised by the food at this place and we'll definitely be back!

I recommend Old Spot in Salem. Huge beer selection, very congenial atmosphere, very casual, and the food is great, with the exception of the desserts. My favorite is the reuben with sweet potato fries. The steak tips are also very good.

'Pub' is a pretty broad term. could you let us know more specifically what you're looking for?

if you mean Irish Pub then The Peddlar's Daughter in Haverhill and Kitty O'Sheas in Beverly come immediately to mind.
