Most goat cheese in the market is too subtle and tame for my taste. Does anybody know where in Los Angeles I can get goat cheese that really tastes like goats and farms, or like whatever the goats have been eating, etc? Basically the goaty equivalent of the most extreme cow cheeses.

Also, does anybody know of any goat farms near Los Angeles, especially ones you can visit? Goats have more personality than any other animal going, and I just like them.

You might try the Artisan Cheese Gallery on Ventura Blvd. in Studio City, or the Beverly Hills Cheese Store.

Wally's Wine (ask for Eric LB) or Cheese Store Beverly Hills, or Silverlake Cheese. DO NOT go to Artisan Cheese Gallery. Their stuff is pretty bad and basic. Bought a piece there and actually threw it out it had so little flavor.

Well, we need to give them a chance to find their legs. Their reblochon was waaaay too young, as was their brie last Sunday. They didn't have any Redwood Hill Farms chevre, which surprised me.

I think I'll probably still go to Cheese Store at Bev Hills. It's a shame bc Artisan are so close by. But without the necessary volume of clientele, there won't be as good a selection and turnover.

And ya think they at least might have some Stinking Bishop in stock in time for the release of the new, hilarious Wallace and Gromit flick. Seed has been duly planted.

I agree, give Artisan a change. No, they don't have the selection of the Silverlake Cheese Store (my favorite), but they are trying. And they do have Midnight Moon.

Try Redwood Hill Farm's pungent California Crottin. They're from Sonoma County and sell at the Wed Santa Monica Farmers Mkt (samples galore) and the big Whole Foods in SM.
